Vonnegut has long been very much a hero of mine. We humans are very much lessened by his loss.

Just had an awesome massage, feel like wet pasta, and I'm now sitting in the bar enjoying several pints of wheat while re-writing an Operations report which has plagued me for years.
Right now, Life is damn good.

Saw "The Inside Man" on Friday. Far more David Mamet than typical Spike Lee or Denzel fare. If it even appears remotely interesting to you, take a chance and see it. Not earth shattering, but far better than I expected.
current music: Elliott Smith - Not Half Right

Ah we can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance Well they're are no friends of mine I say, we can go where we want to, A place where they will never find And we can act like we come from out of this world Leave the real one far behind, and we can dance

Ah we can go when we want to the night is young and so am I And we can dress real neat from our hats to our feet and surprise 'em with the victory cry

So, which will be looked upon as the more relevant historic event... the long lasting ramifications of the Iraq war... or the advent of the SARS virus?

In an effort to confuse the matter with clarity: Under legislation enacted in 1986, daylight saving time in the USA begins at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday of April and ends at 2 a.m. on the last Sunday of October
In most of the countries of western Europe, including the countries that are members of the EEC, daylight saving time: begins at 1 a.m. GMT on the last Sunday of March and ends at 1 a.m. GMT on the last Sunday of October (this explains the drunken confusion that Warren Ellis described in this weekend's e-mail newsletter).
Daylight Saving Time - for the U.S. and its territories - is not observed in Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, the Eastern Time Zone portion of the State of Indiana, and by most of Arizona (with the exception of the Navajo Indian Reservation in Arizona).

So in a nod to my evergrowing geeky awareness of cinematography...
I noticed a fantastic tribute in tonights Smallville... its a repeat of the episode SkinWalkers, the one where Clark falls for the Native American Lycanthrope girl... so, its clearly filmed in Vancouver BC....note the trees, lack of desert, and soft overcast natural lighting in the outdoor scenes... now the first five seasons...the good ones...of the X-Files were filmed in the same area...and made extensive use of the woods and feel of the area
the opening scene where the wolf stalks and attacks the construction guy was set up and executed almost exactly like those opening teaser moments in the X-Files (where the monster gets introduced)... and they even used the same frigging score as the X-Files. Very recognizable creepy tension building music. Nicely done.

Right when I was getting sucked in.... the appearance of Susan Surandon snapped me out of it.

So I just got to watch Connie Chung flub a line, say "oh, shit", and cut to a taped segment. Gotta love live talking heads...

I went and saw Daredevil today. And it exceeded my lowered expectations. Anything with either Bullseye or Foggy Nelson were the highlights of the movie, and most ofthe action bits were pretty well done. "Alias" had already decided for me that I would happily pay for Jennifer Garner to come kick my ass, and this movie did nothing to change that. Even Affl-Hack was okay. The story was a bit muddled, spending far too much time on the how of the powers instead of developing Elektra's character (dropping the assassin aspect lessened the character), or more time on Bullseye or the suprisingly effective Matt and Foggy comedy bits.
Even so, it was worth seeing. My main concern is that this would be a real stinker that would derail the recent solid track record of comics adaptions. Its not :)

So I went and saw "Darkness Falls" today... while it wasn't awful, its definately not worthy of going to see on the big screen... Anya's prescence was not enough to help...she was really a non-factor... one of the guys at "Things from Another World" had preciously stated that he was boycotting it...a friend of his had been involved in the creature design, only to be booted at the last minute in order to bring in Stan Winston's CreatureFeature studios... while the CG flying shroud thing was pretty effective, the porcelain mask and what lay beneath it weren't that impressive...

And yes, I just posted a long, personal friends' only rant. Been a while since I did that. Felt pretty good. Might do it again some day.
My point in the epilogue here was to say..."Welcome!!!!!" to marlowe1 and unanon...
after having a pretty static friends' thing for months...two new people show up the same day. Weird.
So, welcome to the fray... be afraid, very afraid....

And now my day is complete...I was inadvertantly exposed to toxic levels of Bon Jon Bovi... did manage to scrub/mop the kitcken floor, vacuum the kitchen, living room and hall with my handy dandy ShopVac..funny how the mention of Bon Jon made me think of wanting to scrub, clean and mop... also, made super bowl Pizza run to Godfathers :) Jalepeno Hot Stuff pizza w/ cheese bread rulez
at least I've got some "Alias" to look forward to...that and another two loads of laundry...would have done more but the "being at work' til 2am last night led to the being asleep til 11am, which shot most of the day.

These fucking half-time travesties leave me confused, depressed and with the growing fear that most of the country has already passed the point of no return sliding into a braindead downward spiral of Jerry Springer, George Bush, Puff Daddy and Hee Haw.
I was promised a bunch of really cool commercials...can we pleasse skip this shit and just have a half hour of commercials? Wouldn't that make ABC more money anyway?
Except for the part with Gwen Stefani's belly. We can keep that part.
